Hello there! I am Adeline Tay.
I am currently a PhD student at Nanyang Technological University's Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, where I am a recipient of the NTU-WKWSCI Research Scholarship.
I received my Bachelor's degree (Honours with Distinction) in Digital Communications and Integrated Media from Singapore Institute of Technology.
Prior to this, I earned a diploma in Child Psychology and Early Education from Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
My LinkedIn, ORCID and Google Scholar accounts are linked below. Please feel free to visit them!
My interest in children’s well-being grew from firsthand observations (during my early childhood working stints) of how digital media affected children physiologically and psychologically. This fueled my passion to advocate for healthier digital habits and more mindful media use among young audiences and parents.
I have published in academic journals, presented at academic conferences, and engaged with a wide range of audiences—including parents, preschool educators, and teenagers—on topics related to digital parenting. I have also shared my perspectives through radio interviews and opinion pieces, contributing to ongoing conversations about children and media in Singapore's evolving digital landscape.
For my PhD thesis, I am keen to investigate the phenomenon of Sharenting—a portmanteau of “sharing” and “parenting”—in which parents fashion digital narratives (including personal information and photographs) about their children and publicise them on social media platforms.
